Aluminum alloys can experience galling under high contact stress. To eliminate this issue, we recommend specifying Type III Hardcoat Anodizing (50-micron thickness) or electroplated nickel coatings on threaded ends. The minimum wall thickness depends on the thread pitch depth. As an engineering rule of thumb, the pipe wall thickness remaining after thread cutting must equal at least 1.5 times the thread root depth to prevent structural bursting under pressure.
